Cooking with John, Week of 1/4/04

Grandma
Please forgive me as I'll be out for the next few days. My Grandmother passed away today and I've decided to make the trip with my dad to help him out with the funeral arrangements.

Generally, I guess now would be the time when I say something sentimental and touching. The truth is, I've seen my Grandma once in the last five years. Yes, I regret not taking the time to see her more often during my visits home, but the Cat's in the Cradle and all that jazz.

I didn't cry today. Something which Christine found to be baffling as the flushing of a fish sets off the water works with her. I guess I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing. I was very close to my Grandma when I was a kid, but as kids grow older, life gets in the way. Yes, the more I stir, the more precious memories slowly rise to the top of my brain, but I think it's life itself that's occupying the most space right now. I remember when my mom's Grandma died. My mom was just a little older than I am now. My Grandma had been in a home for about five years so it wasn't that big of a shock. I guess it's the cycle that is making me think.

Anyway...

Rather than write mopey, dismal words on this happy sky-blue background, I'll just promise to return as soon as possible. Enjoy your gaming this week.

Britney Spears Naked!
I figured that tagline might get some attention.

So Miss Spears is now Mrs. Alexander, or something like that. Well, at least according to this. Knowing celebrity marraiges, I don't suppose it'll be too long before the former Mrs. Alexander does indeed appear nude and answers the prayers of all you horney adolescents that eagerly clicked into this article.

Hooray!

Hilden and I just finished the latest issue of Drunken Gamers and I'm about all wrote out. So rather than babbling on and on about shit that not even I care about, I'd like to announce another Cooking With John Contest. Once again, I'm giving away a bit of anime for your enjoyment. The prize up for grabs is a copy of Someday's Dreamers: Lesson 1 on DVD, courtesy of Pioneer Home Entertainment.

Someday's Dreamers is the story of Yume Kikuchi, a 17-year old girl living in the countryside of Japan who has the ability to perform miracles. I've watched a bit of it and it's a pretty good little show.

To win, all you have to do is write in with your choice for game of the year and tell me why that game gets your vote.

Simple? Good.

I need some sleep.
