Gaming Gear: Pyramat

This is the piece of Gaming Gear that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on. The Pyramat, while odd in appearance, can really kick your gaming experience in the head.

I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first. I unrolled the mat out in front of the television set and stared at the thing. How was this supposed to have any effect on how I played video games? Now be warned, the Pyramat will not impress you if you play games like Chu Chu Rocket or Pikmin. However, pop in Quake III or Rez, and now we’re talking some serious business.

The PM300 unit that GWX was allowed to test out comes stocked with a 4” woofer, 25v Watt amplifier, adjustable bass control, and a hand remote. The mat they sent us, made out of black vinyl with green plastic trim, is extremely stylish and looks perfect sitting in front of the television connected to an Xbox.

Here’s how the unit works: you simply connect the audio jacks of any next-generation console, television, Stereo, DVD Player, MP3 player, or CD Player, roll the mat out, lay down, and enjoy the ride. It’s really that simple. To top it off, the Pyramat also works in conjunction with your current sound system, meaning you can have bone-crunching action from NFL 2K3 pumping through your stereo and the Pyramat at the same time.

As I said, gamers who use the unit with games like Namco Museum, Pikmin, and the like won’t be thoroughly impressed. The Pyramat is designed for games heavy on audio and sound effects. However, when you find the perfect game to utilize this snazzy accessory (i.e.: Quake III), you’ll be glad you coughed up the money.

The Pyramat comes in a variety of colors and models. Head on over to the official website and take a look at everything they have to offer.
