A sequel to the ever-popular James Bond N64 game is under "top secret" development.
In a press release documenting the current success of James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, Electronic Arts' President and COO announced that GoldenEye 2 is currently under development.
"As the #1 console title in the US, Everything or Nothing, EA's critically acclaimed new Bond game has it all, including original music from Grammy winner Mya and top Hollywood talent such as Pierce Brosnan and Heidi Klum," said John Riccitiello, EA's President and COO. "And we're not done yet -- today we're announcing that we are developing GoldenEye 2 (working title), a game where players become the ultimate villain in the Bond universe," Riccitiello added.
"Everything or Nothing's success continues to showcase the enormous strength of our collaborative relationship with EA and Danjaq," added Travis Rutherford, Senior Vice President of MGM Consumer Products and Interactive. "We look forward to continued success with this fall's release of a new chapter in the Bond saga and the creation of another blockbuster franchise in GoldenEye 2."
As Riccitiello mentioned, players will explore the the dark side of the Bond underworld, playing an agent who was a candidate for 00 status before being dismissed from MI6 for reckless brutality. The player will team up with the infamous 007 villian, Auric Goldfinger, fighting for control of the world's greatest criminal organization.
Although no specifics were announced, EA said the game was in development for multiple consoles. We'll likely learn more detailed information at E3 in May.
