MechAssault 2 Coming This Winter

The sequel to the popular Xbox Live enabled action shooter has been officially announced.
Microsoft Game Studios announced today that MechAssualt 2 for the Xbox is currently being developed by Day 1 Studios and should be completed in time for a holiday 2004 release. The developer promises "an entirely fresh and exciting gameplay experience for seasoned combat veterans and newcomers alike."
MechAssualt 2 has gamers taking on the role of a full-fledged human pilot who can select from a number of different combat vehicles including tanks, vertical takeoff and landing craft (VTOLs), BattleArmor and BattleMechs. Choosing the right set of vehicles is pivotal in succeeding in the wide variety of missions in the game. The single-player campaign will have a deeper storyline, NPC interaction and missions delivered "on the fly".
BattleArmor will make its first appearance in MechAssault 2 and allows gamers to become one of the deadliest weapons in the game's universe. Besides providing protection, BattleArmor gives the wearer the ability to hijack enemy Mechs, climb buildings, easily dispose of enemy squads and destroy enemy armor.
The Xbox Live component of MechAssualt 2 will include the original game's modes as well as the ability to use all of the aformentioned new vehicles and Mechs. Hopefully, Microsoft will reveal more of the game at E3 in May. We'll keep you posted.
