One of the most popular nighttime action-drama series, Alias, is ready to shoot its way into the videogame industry. The television series is critically acclaimed and has gained a great reputation during its short but sweet tenure. But, will an exceptionally well-done television show with an absolutely gorgeous star (Jennifer Garner) be able to make a great game?
In Alias, players will take control of Garner’s character, Sydney Bristow. As in the series, you’ll be equipped with advanced martial arts techniques and an array of gadgets in an effort to take down Arvin Sloane, the leader of the previously destroyed SD-6 terrorist organization. As in the show, Sloane is on the loose and bent on becoming more powerful than ever, and it will be up to you as Sydney Bristow to discover his plans and foil them at all costs.
As in the show, players will use a mix of stealth, spying, and action to overcome their foes. Gun-fights, lock-picking, and defensive countering moves are just a few of the abilities you’ll use to combat the game’s enemies. Backgrounds are partially interactive, so chairs and other items can be thrown or swung during combat as well. In addition, special camera angles will be used to give players a better feeling that they’re actually “in the game.”
Just as the gameplay seems to have promising elements, the voice-acting and dialogue in Alias are also shoe-ins to be outstanding aspects of the game. The entire cast of the show—ranging from the actors (Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber, Michael Vartan) to the writers of the show—will be involved in the game’s development. This translates to some great Hollywood authenticity since we’ll be hearing their voices and reading what will surely be an exciting storyline.
"With the convergence of Hollywood and video games, Alias is a perfect example of how interactive entertainment has accelerated to the next level," said Bruce Gersh, Vice President of Business Development at ABC. "The fascinating and strong character of 'Alias" Sydney Bristow is so engaging on the TV screen, and her 'virtual Sydney' is equally mesmerizing in the video game."
We all know that Jennifer Garner, or rather Syndey Bristow, is indeed mesmerizing, but will Acclaim’s title dazzle as well? The premise, storyline, and potential amount of action all seems very promising at this point, but whether the game will be able to overcome the infamous screen-to-game stigma has yet to be seen. Only time will tell, so stick around at GamingWorldX for more information on this title in the coming weeks.
