Brendon Hivner

A scarecrow -- the classic kind with the pumpkin head -- represents my favorite element in the world: the charms of Halloween, and a world of horror in general. Whether it's true fear, or with a heavy dose of camp, Halloween (and the jack-o-lantern) represent limitless imagination and fun.
Videogames are Brendon's life. Had been since the days of the Atari 2600 and the one-stick, one-button control pad. He graduated to the Atari 7800, and the even more ill-fated Atari XE before finding his true passion in Nintendo's NES. Horror games and mystery games are what Brendon enjoys most, no matter the company, no matter the platform. And today, as a GWX editor, Brendon gets to finally do what he always dreamt of doing: writing about his passion, and kicking those who disagree with every one of his stupid opinions.

Duties around the Site
As an editor for GWX's Sony department, Brendon is at the mercy of Brian Williams (Sony GWX's EiC) and Matlock (Sony GWX Senior Editor) constantly smacking him around for no good reason. When not being maliciously pummeled, Brendon writes things. Not partial, Brendon does not discriminate when writing for other platforms; he helps to ruin each department equally.

The Scariest Game I Ever Played Was...
Clock Tower. I love Fatal Frame, and most notably, both Silent Hill games. All of these freaked me out, but Clock Tower frightened me in a different way. The fear -- that undeniable panic -- was right there in your face, and it was chasing you down. I played that whole game constantly on my guard.

The Top Three Defining Moments in Gaming for Me
1. First realizing my true freedom in Grand Theft Auto 3. It will always be one of my defining moments, not just in this generation, but for life.

2. Experiencing deathmatch heaven in Halo. It was the game that changed my mind about the first-person shooter.

3. Medal of Honor: Frontline. Just that game. The music, the atmosphere... everything. One of the best experiences I've had on PS2.
