The platforming jungle legend makes a comeback on the PlayStation 2!
In this next-generation update of Pitfall Harry, players will once again take on the role of the infamous Harry. This time around, you’ll have to race against a rival explorer to find hidden treasurers before he does- the end of the world is at stake!
As in the original, gamers will be able to swing on vines, jump across chasms, all while escaping crocodiles, scorpions and more. Throughout the adventure you’ll have access to weapons such as the slingshot, ice axe, dynamite and more to combat the games villainous enemies. You can also escape the enemy using your pogo stick, shed light on situations using a torch, and deflect them using your trusty shield. All in all, the variety of weapons seems to be rather decent, the same goes for a wide list of enemies, ranging from spiders and bats, to natives and bush ninjas, and of course the occasional mega monkey.

Surprisingly, weapons won’t be the only way to combat the games numerous foes. As you progress your way through the adventure, you’ll have access to new abilities such as the dash. There’s also a special button used to “upgrade” your regular attacks into super-charged attacks for more power! Players will have to use such abilities as they traverse locales ranging from mines to treacherous jungle areas.
Visually speaking, the game has a very nice cartoonish style to it, one that will certainly draw in the casual gamers and old-school gamers alike. Animations are sleek and look great, and the environments are very comical and quite well done.
Solid visuals are almost guaranteed in this generation’s titles, but games of late have really lacked replay value, something Pitfall Harry seems to try and relieve. Mini-games and extras will be available, though exactly what these may be have not been revealed. Not only that, but the game is said to include about 50 levels, so it seems like it will be quite the long adventure.

Pitfall Harry has obviously been completely redone for the new generation of games. Although currently the game doesn’t seem to be able to top titles such as Jak and Daxter or any of the Mario titles, it still looks like it will hold its own. Though, with 3D environments and some interesting gameplay mechanics, the game does indeed look promising. Let’s hope that the title Harry’s to stores soon!
